EPITAPH WAKE (29/8/97)

The Sisters of Murphy... a tribute band to the Sisters of Mercy (though a few memebrs of this newsgroup possibly could think of their own tribute). They were surprisingly good, if anything too good. They were doing exact covers... no new interperations no changes no reworked lyrics no spoof songs either the lead singer looked like Eldritch. You could have put on the vinyl and well you would have had the same stuff; which was ashame. Incy Wincy Spider . (alt.people.gothic)

I saw The Sisters of Murphy on Friday... the singer appeared to be trying to be a cross between McCoy and Nosferatu and was swigging from a bottle of JD throughout... they were quite fun really... they belted out a collection of Sisters classics sounding more like Eld than Eld himself (did someone else say that?)...
Just thought I'd mention it :)

First band up were the Sisters of Murphy, who seemed like quite a decent tribute band. Not sounding quite like the original, and their frontman - while bearing some resemblance to Kapitan Von - was neither short nor a complete shithead. I think they've got some potential, if they decide to do some original stuff.
David/Kirsty 'Gotterdammerung' Damerell. (alt.people gothic)

That was my intial impression too, however, after I'd listened carefully for a while their weaknesses as a straight sisters clone came through; the singer didn't have quite the voice, and the backing also lacked. But as you say, they might stand up better with original material.

I really enjoyed them. It's always good to see people with a sense of humour, and I thought they did a really good job of the music too.
